Inspired by Remedios Varo’s painting (oil on canvas) Still Life Reviving (1963), Purple Still refers to the low senses (feminine senses) in a surrealist form. This work implies the mystic properties of the daily rituals and womanhood (female alchemist). In contradiction to Varo’s work format (painting), which primarily engages the sense of sight, Purple Still engages the low sense of touch and taste yet refers to the themes addressed by Varo. This artwork celebrates life, the creative force, the low senses, and the feminine divine.
Techniques Used: Soft Sculpture, needle paint embroidery, coiling, and natural dying (logwood).
